Hart transplant
Angie Hart is more used to slaying audiences than vampires. "But
we love our Buffy," says the former lead singer of the defunct Australian
pop outfit Frente! She and husband Jesse Tobias (above) and their
new band, Splendid, buffed up their performance skills witha a
guest spot on the TV series this season, and have another scheduled for
its return episode next year. Melbourne-born Hart, 27, now lives in Los
Angeles with Tobias, also 27, but their debut album, Have You Got a Name
for It, was recorded during two tropical storms and a hurricane in New
Orleans. The album, Hart told Inside Scoop, is largely a documentary of
her "intense" relationship with Tobias. A one-time guitarist for the Red
Hot Chili Peppers and Alanis Morissette, Texas native Tobias says Splendid
was formed from the couple's desire to "be with one another and travel
together." The petite redhead says it would be "too weird" for her to sing
the chart-topping tunes of Frente!, especially those she co-wrote with
her ex-boyfriend and former Frente! band member Simon Austin." It's kind
of odd when Simon's not here, to have me take [the songs] on as my own,
and have Jesse taking on a role that's not his," she explains. Indeed,
Hart has a particular aversion to trilling the band's 1992 summer hit "Accidently
[sic] Kelly Street." " I love all the other Frente! songs," she says, "but
that one has done its dash with me."
